Fresh snow has already fallen in the Tatra Mountains, with up to 7 cm of accumulation expected in higher elevations.
Snow in the Tatra Mountains
On Monday, weather conditions deteriorated in the Tatra Mountains. Above 1,700 meters above sea level, fresh snow has already fallen. Videos of the situation in the mountains have appeared on social media. The Tatra National Park warned on September 29 that conditions for tourism are unfavorable—there is ice in the mountains. In the ridge areas, low cloud cover further complicates navigation, increasing the risk of getting lost. After rain, trails in the valleys are wet, slippery, and muddy, especially in forested sections.
When will snow arrive across Poland?
According to meteorologists, snowfall may occur in the Carpathians and Sudetes on Monday. “Above 1,200–1,300 meters, rain mixed with snow and snow will fall (in the highest parts of the Tatras, snow cover may increase by 4 to 7 cm),” the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management reported. These precipitation will persist until the end of the week. Meanwhile, snow may appear across the entire country between late November and early December, as previously indicated by forecasters based on American weather models.
Weather for the coming days
According to forecasts, the transition from September to October will be typically autumnal due to the influx of cold air from the east. “On Monday and Tuesday, thunderstorms are possible. In many parts of Poland, especially in the west, there will also be sunshine. Daytime temperatures will range from 11 to 15°C, dropping to 3–6°C at night, with local ground frosts.” Similar temperatures are expected until Friday. As noted by meteorologists, “the situation may change over the weekend—warming is possible,” according to a statement from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management.
