A Trump envoy confirms the US allows Ukraine to launch long-range attacks on Russian territory in certain cases.
US Envoy’s Statement
During a September 28 interview on Fox News, General Keith Kellogg, a special envoy for Trump, stated the US permits Ukraine to conduct long-range strikes on Russian territory in specific instances. “Based on President Donald Trump’s words, Vice President J.D. Vance’s remarks, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statements, I believe the answer is yes. Yes, use the opportunity to strike deep,” he emphasized. Kellogg stressed that “Russia is not winning this war.”
He warned, “If they were, they would be in Kyiv, in Odesa.” Kellogg also expressed concern about potential miscalculations leading to further escalation, such as drone attacks in Poland or aircraft overflights near Estonia. He underscored that this is not just a European issue but a global one.
Russian Advances and Regrouping
Meanwhile, over the past 24 hours, 136 clashes occurred on the Ukrainian front. Russian forces have been intensively pushing toward Pokrovsk for months, achieving minor positional gains. Nearly half of all Russian attacks in the last day targeted the Pokrovsk sector. Despite some advances on the city’s southern outskirts, Pokrovsk remains undefeated. Ukrainian forces have also retreated slightly in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where Russian troops have advanced several kilometers since early September.
Russian forces are reportedly regrouping, possibly preparing for another offensive. However, the US Institute for the Study of War notes Russia is facing growing logistical and reserve challenges. Unrestricted Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory with Western weapons could further exacerbate these issues.
