Polish PSL leader Piotr Zgorzelski welcomed Szymon Hołowni’s decision to exit his party and pursue the UN High Commissioner for Refugees role, calling it a mark of real leadership.
Zgorzelski on Hołowni’s Letter
During a TVN24 interview, Zgorzelski discussed a fragment of Hołowni’s letter announcing his resignation from the party and his bid for the UN post.
Hołowni noted that he is applying for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees position and reflected on the hardships he has endured.
Zgorzelski praised the honor of being elected by the people, stressing that trust is the cornerstone of the social contract between citizens and their representatives.
Hołowni Abandons Poland 2050
Hołowni clarified that he will not lead Poland 2050, expressing gratitude to the president, prime minister, and foreign minister for their support.
He admitted his chances of taking the UN role were slim and that it was now time to hand the baton to new leaders who will be chosen in January.
Future Plans if UN Bid Fails
When asked what he would do if the UN High Commissioner election were unsuccessful, Hołowni said he might criticize the UN or claim to be the third Polish astronaut in space.
