A bomb alert following reports of an explosive device at a north‑Munich home has forced the city to suspend Oktoberfest until at least Wednesday, Oct. 1, and it may never reopen.
Bomb alert forces Oktoberfest to close
Mayor Dieter Reiter said a potential bomb threat—linked to a serious incident involving a suspected explosive device—prompted the city to suspend the festival. The warning followed a fire in a single‑family house in northern Munich that was accompanied by sounds resembling gunfire or explosions. Officials state that the festival may not resume on Wednesday, Oct. 1, and could remain closed indefinitely.
Dead victim and explosives discovered after home fire
Police found a dead person in the house that burned after a family quarrel allegedly sparked a fire. Authorities suspect the blaze was set deliberately. During the investigation, police also discovered unexploded material suspected to be explosive. The mayor said that the same person involved in the home explosion is also responsible for the bomb warning, and authorities are treating the matter seriously.
