PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński dismissed seven members of the Lower Silesian Sejmik’s PiS club on Monday, leaving the club with six remaining deputies.
List of Excluded Deputies
The deputies removed are Magdalena Brodowska, Przemysław Czarnecki, Łukasz Lach, Marcin Krzyżanowski, Paweł Kura, Krzysztof Mróz and Ewelina Szydłowska‑Kędziera. The club still has six other members. The move is unlikely to alter the regional balance, as the sejmik’s majority coalition of KO, PSL and Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy formed after last year’s local elections.
Sources indicate that the excluded deputies plan to issue a statement on Wednesday, and they may appeal the decision.
Political Fallout Behind the Decision
At the time of the removal, Kaczyński was in Wrocław signing the dismissal letters. According to information from the Gazeta Wyborcza, the decision stemmed from a conflict over the PiS club’s leadership. In July, seven deputies voted to remove Piotr Karwan as chairman. In September, Łukasz Lach was elected as the new club head.
Karwan reportedly sought the support of former Sejm Marshal Elżbieta Witek, who in turn turned to Kaczyński. Reports suggest that Witek said she must take responsibility for the situation and that she wanted to curb the ambitions of Euro MP Michał Dworczyk.
