Police in Poland arrested 11 people on October 1 in Przysiec, linked to the garbage mafia, including 50‑year‑old sports club president Piotr R.
Further arrests in garbage‑mafia investigation
According to “Supervizor,” 11 people were detained on Oct. 1 in Przysiec, Poland (Greater Poland Voivodeship). The operation involved officers from the Economic Crime Unit of the Radom provincial police command and a counter‑terrorism police squad.
The investigation was supervised by prosecutor Magdalena Łęska from the Łódź territorial office of the Organized Crime and Corruption Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office. The actions are linked to a case being handled by the Economic Crime Unit of the Masovian police.
Businessman and sports club president among detainees
Deputy Inspector Katarzyna Kucharska said the 50‑year‑old Piotr R., president of a waste‑management company and head of a sports club, was among those detained. Ten people were arrested on the company premises, including two drivers unloading.
Police suspect the 50‑year‑old may be the “brain behind the operation” and suspected of steering an organized crime group, an inspector from the General Environmental Protection Inspectorate reported. Inspectors from GIOŚ and police collected evidence that helped locate sites where waste might have been buried.
Potential charges
All detainees may be suspected of involvement with an organized crime group, improper handling of waste, and providing false statements to obtain financial benefits. Such offences carry up to 15 years in prison.
The prosecutor’s office has not yet disclosed the specific charges; Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak said information will be provided after the proceedings. According to “Superwizor,” a temporary arrest is likely for Piotr R.
Illegal waste disposal case
A police officer told “Superwizor” that all arrested persons worked with entities from the grey waste sector, re‑packaging waste and staging fictitious transports.
Fires at the facility where arrests were made were not accidental. In March at a quarry in Nawojów Łużycki, 47 people were arrested, 29 detained; in August in Piekary Śląskie, 21 more members of the garbage mafia were arrested.
