On 1 October, Poland’s RCB issued a warning to residents of Podkarpacie, telling them not to touch the vaccine capsules laid for rabies‑vaccinated foxes.
RCB Alert on Rabies
The Government Security Center sent a 1 October alert to those in Podkarpacie, saying that between 2–11 October a vaccine for foxes will be dropped. Residents were urged to avoid touching the capsule or letting pets near it.
Design of the Fox Vaccine
The chief veterinary officer explained that the oral vaccination campaign uses aerial drops and manual placement of a product called Rabadrop—an oral suspension. The bait is brown‑green, square or round, with a constant texture, and contains a plastic blister bearing a multilingual label, “Attention – Rabies Vaccine.” The blister’s contents are an orange or red‑violet suspension.
Locations of Further Vaccinations
Additional oral vaccinations will also occur in the Podlaskie and Warmian‑Masurian provinces: 13–15 October and 16–17 October respectively.
