Polish Ministry of Education Releases Guide to Counter “Szon Patrol” Harassment

The Ministry of Education issued a handbook and urged swift action after Minister Barbara Nowacka warned about growing online harassment incidents labelled “szon patrol.”

Minister Sends Warning to School Officials

Minister Barbara Nowacka sent letters to education curators, school principals, teachers, and parents, citing the need for immediate preventive measures against patostreaming, sextortion, and the so‑called “szon patrol” phenomenon.

She emphasized that mockery, exclusion, and online hate undermine personal dignity and privacy, insisting these situations must be “eliminated promptly.”

Parliamentary Interpellation Draws Attention to Harassment

MP Katarzyna Osos raised concerns that “szon patrol” groups function as pseudo‑police, targeting girls and women they deem improperly dressed or behaved, leading to public shaming and emotional distress.

As a result, some girls reported severe stress and reluctance to attend the start of the school year.

High Levels of Youth Violence Reported

The Ministry of National Education announced that 44 % of youth experienced psychological violence and 48 % physical violence. Exclusion, online hate, and even sexting are increasingly common.

Barbra Nowacka warned that “we cannot stay silent and pretend not to see the daily dramas of hundreds of thousands of young people.”

Guidance Handbook and Educational Materials Released

In response, the Ministry developed and updated a handbook titled “Safe School: Threats and Recommended Preventive Actions in Physical and Digital Student Safety,” along with a set of educational resources for principals and teachers.
