On Oct. 1, the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw warned that its social media account would restrict posts until the federal budget crisis resolves.
Embassy Announcement
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw posted a statement saying that, due to a halt in budget funding, the activity of its account would be temporarily limited. Until full resumption, only safety and emergency updates will be posted.
Passport and visa services, both in the United States and abroad, will continue as far as possible, while other updates remain suspended except for urgent alerts.
Federal Shutdown Background
The United States federal administration entered a partial shutdown after Congress failed to agree on government funding, the first such crisis since 2019.
At midnight Washington time (about 6 a.m. Polish time), federal funding expired and agencies began shutdown procedures. Hundreds of thousands of civil employees were placed on unpaid leave and many programs and offices suspended operations.
Congressional Gridlock
In the Senate, a Republican proposal to fund the government through the end of November and a Democratic plan to add additional health‑care spending were both rejected.
President Donald Trump said he would use the crisis to force concessions from the opposition.
Trump’s Response
Democrats blame Trump for chaos and note that millions of Americans may pay considerably more for health insurance. Economists warn that prolonged paralysis will weaken the economy and could deprive millions of citizens of health protection.
