Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, cut off from the grid by Russian attacks, has been in emergency operation for seven days.
President’s Seventh‑Day Statement
Volodymyr Zelensky declared that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant remains critical. The plant was disconnected from the power grid due to Russian shelling, and diesel generators now supply electricity.
Both the generators and the plant are not suited for this prolonged emergency mode, and one generator has already failed according to Ukrainian officials.
International Atomic Energy Agency’s Response
The International Atomic Energy Agency’s head, Rafael Grossi, said the agency is working with both parties to restore power to the plant as quickly as possible.
He added that there is no direct danger as long as the generators remain operational, providing emergency supply to the site.
EURO. Sİlences Questioned
Zelensky emphasized that no terrorist organization in the world would dare turn the plant into a facility similar to what Russia is doing now.
He urged the world not to remain silent in the face of this threat.
Russian Control Since 2022
Since 2022, Russian forces have controlled the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar. Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly warned that the occupiers pose a serious risk of a plant failure.
The plant has had to use emergency supply multiple times as a result.
