Norwegian Soldiers Vanish During Exercise; Commanders Say “We Pushed the Red Button”

Ten Norwegian soldiers scheduled to gather near Gáldvik in Finnmark on 2 October did not appear, prompting a large‑scale search involving police, military, and Red Cross.

Missing Soldiers

Ten servicemen were slated to meet at a scheduled assembly point during a military exercise near Gáldvik in Finnmark. They failed to appear at the appointed time, triggering alarm among commanders.

Search Operations

The search incorporated police officers, local search teams, Red Cross volunteers, and the armed forces. Drones and a helicopter were dispatched to cover the surrounding area.

Possible Scenarios

Commander Jørgen Haukland Hansen stated that two main scenarios are under consideration: either the soldiers misinterpreted the meeting time or an incident occurred that prevented their arrival.

Military Briefing

Falkland’s spokesperson Lars Strøm explained the exercise involved moving between two map points. He emphasized that the missing men were well‑trained and equipped for local weather conditions.
