Polish President Radek Nawrocki signed a decree to maintain additional checks on the German and Lithuanian borders until April 2025, deploying armed forces to support the Border Guard.
Support from the Armed Forces for the Border Guard
President Nawrocki’s decree, effective from 5 October to 4 April 2025, orders the Armed Forces and their sub-units to secure the national border and public order around border crossings and in the border zone with Germany and Lithuania.
The decree confirms that soldiers will remain ready to reinforce border security and guarantee the integrity of Poland’s frontier.
Temporary Border Checks Introduced July 7
The temporary controls began on 7 July, with the Operational Command of the Armed Forces announcing support for the Border Guard’s efforts.
“Safe West” and “Safe Podlasie” Campaigns
Under the decisions of Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz, the armed forces were to assist in the “Safe West” and “Safe Podlasie” actions, continuing the Border Guard’s operations at the German and Lithuanian borders.
Daily Check Results on German and Lithuanian Borders
On 9 October, Border Guard officials reported 4,520 persons and 2,600 transport vehicles checked at the Lithuanian border, with one person denied entry.
On 10 October, the Polish‑German border saw 7,400 persons and 3,600 vehicles inspected, with four persons denied entry.
