On Monday, October 6, Tomasz Trela announced his intent to file an indictment against former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro over alleged illegal purchase of the Pegasus surveillance system.
Trela Announces Indictment Against Ziobro
Tomasz Trela posted on social media that following last week’s questioning of Ziobro, he would now pursue an indictment against the former minister. He wrote that “all are equal before the law” and that the legal action would be taken this week.
Ziobro’s Statements on Pegasus Probe
Zbigniew Ziobro claimed that he initiated the procurement of the Pegasus system from the Ministry of Justice and that he takes pride in its use against international “conspiracies.” He said the purchase had his involvement and that the system had been applied to surveilling foreign networks.
He added that he had approached Vice‑Minister Michał Woś, who oversaw the Justice Fund, for financing, and offered Minister Mariusz Kamiński a proposal to tap the fund’s resources—primarily derived from fines paid by convicted criminals. Ziobro noted that then‑Vice‑Prime Minister Morawiecki had to be involved to secure alternative sources, but the negotiations yielded no results, prompting renewed discussions.
Committee Chair Weighs Evidence and Chooses to File Charge
Magdalena Sroka, chair of the Pegasus committee, said the collected material is “so damning that it warrants an indictment” against the former minister. She confirmed that the trove, including Ziobro’s own admissions, would form the basis of a formal filing and a final report.
Sroka expressed hope that the prosecutor’s office would, using her findings, lay charges that a court could then assess.
