Work on Warsaw’s Okrzei street will begin on Monday, 6 October, closing lanes and banning parking for the next 18 months.
Construction Begins Oct 6
The rebuilding of the Okrzei street is set to start on Monday, 6 October, at approximately 16:00. The project will last 1 year and 5 months, with Strabag slated to carry out the work.
Road Closures and Lane Restrictions
Road crews will close half of the carriageway on the Praskiego Port side between Panieńska and Jagiellońska streets. In the direction of Targowa, drivers will be allowed to travel in a single lane.
Parking Ban and Towing Notice
From Panieńska to Jagiellońska, parking will be prohibited with signs indicating the possibility of vehicle removal at the owner’s expense. All vehicles parked along the entire reconstruction stretch must be moved.
Access Changes and Pedestrian Impact
The connection to Okrzei will lose access via Wrzesińska; drivers will instead enter from Kępna. Intersections with Krowa and Sierakowski will remain passable. During construction, the sidewalk on the Praskiego Port side will be closed, limiting pedestrian access to Krowa and Wrzesińska.
New Warsaw Center Vision
The Okrzei street overhaul is part of the New Warsaw Center project, updating the segment from Wybrzeże Szczecińskie to Jagiellońska. Asphalt will be replaced by high‑quality stone paving, and a convenient two‑way bike path will be added. Traffic for cars and buses will continue as a single lane, maintaining its one‑way flow.
Environmental Enhancements
The street will be enriched with 74 new trees, fresh flower beds, modest architectural features, and rest areas within the main green strip. Dedicated spaces for gastronomic gardens will also be provided.
