Police on Wednesday arrested a 44‑year‑old Polish man and a 34‑year‑old Ukrainian in Warsaw’s Śródmieście for possession of large drug quantities, including liquid GHB dubbed a “rape pill,” and for planning to bring the substance to market.
Arrest and Charges
Police in Warsaw’s Śródmieście detained a 44‑year‑old Polish citizen and a 34‑year‑old Ukrainian on charges including possession of substantial amounts of drugs and preparing to introduce them into circulation.
Seized Drugs and Items
During the operation authorities seized large quantities of narcotics such as klofedron, ecstasy, and bottles of liquid GHB – referred to as a “rape pill” – along with several thousand zlotys, jewelry, mobile phones and other related equipment.
Background on Liquid GHB
GHB is a colourless, odorless, tasteless gamma‑hydroxybutyric acid that can be dissolved in drinks, causing partial to total loss of consciousness and impaired decision‑making. Users are often the target of theft or sexual assault.
Evidence of Market Preparations
Polish and Ukrainian IDs of third parties and dozens of small, empty vials were also seized. Investigators say the Ukrainian suspect had no right to dispose of those documents and that the vials were prepared to contain GHB for sale.
Court Decision
The Warsaw Śródmieście District Court granted the prosecutor’s request and imposed a preventive temporary arrest of three months on both suspects.
Ongoing Prosecution
The case is under the supervision of the Warsaw Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office.
