Wife Swaps Locks, Steals 25,000 zł, Faces Up to 10 Years

A 42‑year‑old woman was arrested after swapping the locks of her brother’s Warsaw apartment, entering it and taking roughly 25,000 zł in cash, jewellery and electronics.

Burglary Via Locked Entrance

Investigators found that the suspect had altered the locks on her brother’s apartment door before breaking in. Inside she stole money, jewellery, electronic equipment and other valuable items.

Evidence of the Theft

She discarded certain unnamed items in a trash bin, and the victim estimated the loss at around 25,000 zł.

Rapid Police Response

After the report, agents from the Property‑Crime Unit located the woman’s current whereabouts and moved to Warsaw’s Praga Północ district, where they apprehended her.

Charges of burglary with theft were filed, and under the criminal code, that offence carries up to 10 years of imprisonment.

Security Advisory

Police warn that residential burglaries often involve acquaintances of the victim, suggesting careful key management, guarding spare locksets and alerting authorities about suspicious activity.
