On a Warsaw street, an electric‑scooter rider ignored a red light and collided with a Toyota, with both drivers fleeing the scene, police say.
Police Investigation
Policemen from Warsaw’s Traffic Department clarified the circumstances of the traffic incident on Człuchowska Street.
Incident Details
On the bicycle lane along Powstańców Śląskich Street, a 20‑year‑old electric‑scooter rider entered the lane at a red signal on Człuchowska Street and struck a Toyota moving correctly. The impact caused the scooter to rebound and hit a Nissan parked on the left lane, after which both the scooter rider and the Toyota driver left the scene.
Key Players
The scooter rider was a 20‑year‑old man who ignored the red traffic signal. The Toyota was driven by a female passenger who subsequently fled the scene, as did the rider.
Evidence and Identification
City surveillance footage identified the Toyota’s registration number, and the scooter rental company supplied the rider’s details. These records enabled police to pinpoint the culprit.
Legal Consequences
Both parties received a criminal fine of 2,000 PLN. The scooter rider was penalised for disobeying a traffic signal, while the Toyota driver was fined for leaving the crash scene without providing assistance.
Safety Reminder
Officials reminded all road users—drivers and electric‑scooter riders alike—to obey traffic signs and signals, warning that negligence can lead to dangerous situations and serious repercussions.
