Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters in Vilnius that the real issue is not the Nord Stream 2 blow‑up but the fact that the pipeline was built, highlighting Poland’s longstanding opposition to its construction.
Tusk Regarding Nord Stream 2
At a press conference with Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the problem is not that Nord Stream 2 was blown up, but that it was built. He blamed the decision to construct the pipeline on those who approved it.
Poland’s Stance on the Pipeline
Tusk said Poland has consistently opposed Nord Stream 2, arguing that it is contrary to the interests of Europe. He stated that any Polish politicians who supported the project are lying and harming Poland’s reputation, while Poland has been firm in its opposition since the outset.
Case of Detained Ukrainian Citizen
Reference was made to the arrest of Ukrainian citizen Wolodymyr Z., whose case began months earlier. Tusk explained that further proceedings will depend on a Polish court, noting that the detention follows an EU arrest warrant. He added that the Polish government’s position remains unchanged and that a court decision will ultimately determine the outcome.
On Monday, the Warsaw District Court extended Wolodymyr Z.’s detention to 40 days. German authorities suspect him of sabotage, sabotage of constitutional order, and the Nord Stream 2 blow‑up.
