In Poland, a 42‑year‑old woman from Radom alleges she underwent an unnecessary heart surgery in Warsaw, while a Kraków patient died after receiving another person’s medication.
Unnecessary Operation Claims
42‑year‑old Ewa, resident of Radom, was treated last year at the Radom Specialist Hospital where specialists diagnosed her with aortic dissection and warned of possible rupture.
She was referred for emergency surgery to a hospital in Warsaw, where the procedure was carried out.
Upon discharge doctors determined the operation was unwarranted and allegations suggest test results were mistakenly taken from another patient.
Ewa’s lawyer, Grzegorz Gębski, says her client never suffered from atrial fibrillation and had no abdominal scar, contradicting the reports in the operative notes.
She has filed a lawsuit seeking compensation of 2 million PLN for pain, loss, injury, and planned pension, and the case is under investigation by prosecutors for possible life‑threatening negligence.
Fatal Medication Mix‑up in Kraków
In December 2024, Krystyna was admitted to the Ludwik Rydygier Specialist Hospital in Kraków with influenza A and monitored on observation.
While hospitalized, she noticed she had been given medication intended for another patient; she only realized the mistake after swallowing the pills and seeing the wrong name on the label.
Both Krystyna and her family reported the error, but staff assured the mistake would not be harmful; the patient died that same night.
Investigators report that the nurse responsible for the error is slated for disciplinary dismissal.
