Polish head of the National Security Bureau, Sławomir Cenckiewicz, has been denied a NATO Personal Security Clearance, preventing him from attending classified alliance meetings, according to media reports and a formal statement.
Absence of NATO Personal Security Clearance
Poland’s National Security Office boss Sławomir Cenckiewicz does not possess a Personal Security Clearance Confirmation, a certification the North Atlantic Treaty Organization requires to grant access to classified information. The Polish Military Counterintelligence Service issued the NATO clearance for individuals who may handle NATO secrets.
Revocation of Clearance
The Military Counterintelligence Service confirmed that Cenckiewicz’s NATO clearance had been revoked, and no such document had been issued by the agency. Consequently, the head of the National Security Bureau cannot attend the alliance’s meetings of various secrecy levels.
BBN’s Response
Radio ZET released a full reply from the National Security Bureau that reads: “In light of the Warsaw WSA rulings of 17 June 2025, BBN head Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz holds a security clearance for access to national and international classified information.” The Military Counterintelligence Service added that he possessed such a document from 22 September 2016 to 12 April 2021.
Allegations Against Cenckiewicz
Carlo Nawrocki is accused of assisting former Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak in revealing secret defense plans for Poland to the public during the 2023 election campaign. Ministerial spokesperson Jacek Dobrzyński reiterated that Cenckiewicz should not have access to classified material, calling the situation “a failure of judgement.”
Drone Incident and Media Claims
The discussion references a damaged Polish house in Wyryki on 9–10 September when Russian drones were reported to have entered Polish airspace. Later reports suggested that fragments of a drone or a missile launched from a Polish F‑16 fell on the house. Cenckiewicz denied the existence of any official note describing the incident, though he trusted that officials from the President’s office and BBN had seen such a document.
