On Saturday, October 4, volunteers rescued a dog chained to a tree in a forest near Ranów, in the Kazanów municipality, following a passerby’s hearing of its bark.
Rescue Operation Following Bark
On Saturday, October 4, the Dog with Cat Association received a report of a dog chained to a tree in a forest in Ranów, Kazanów municipality, Zwoleński district. The animal, hidden from the road, was discovered when its bark was accidentally heard by a passerby. The dog had a chain directly on its neck and clear signs of prolonged confinement.
Health Assessment and Treatment
The rescued dog, named Grzes by his caretakers, was secured and transported to a veterinarian. He was reported to have bloody diarrhea and discomfort during defecation. Tests ruled out parvovirus, and pharmacological therapy including antibiotics was initiated. The Association judged the condition the result of neglect and indicated the need for further gastrointestinal diagnostics, followed by full preventive care such as vaccinations, deworming, and preparation for adoption once stabilized.
Volunteer Support and Shelter Funding
Volunteers highlighted that service teams arrived after hours and that, in similar cases, they are the only hope for such animals. One statement noted that they cannot imagine the dog ending up in a closed shelter after such ordeals, hence the need for a temporary home and funds to take it under their care.
Fundraising for Temporary Home
The Association announced that a fundraising campaign to secure Grzes’ care and accommodation in an animal hotel is underway. Updates reported reaching 48 % and later 83 % of the target amount. Because no temporary home was found, the dog will be placed in a partnered hotel. The Kazanów municipality agreed to cover the costs of the initial diagnostics, and the organization thanked local authorities for their cooperation.
Specialized Diet Needed
Grzes is gentle and very focused on humans. He still requires a specialized gastrointestinal diet. The Association appeals to donors for in‑kind assistance in purchasing such food, with the shipping address provided in a private message. Volunteers write, “This sight will stay with us for a long time… Therefore on his behalf we ask for help.”
Seeking Owner and Perpetrator
The Association also requests information that could help determine the dog’s origin and the person responsible for its abandonment. “We’re also searching for the perpetrator; if anyone recognizes the dog?” readers are encouraged to send tips directly to the Association or relevant authorities.
Current Care and Adoption Plans
The Association currently cares for more than 35 animals with a team of two volunteers. They continue to seek a temporary home for Grzes; if none is found, the dog will remain in the hotel until treatment completes and he is ready for adoption.
