On October 8, a driver of a BMW used for only a week collided with a tree, struck a 15‑year‑old Ukrainian boy, and damaged an oncoming bus on Surowiecki Street in Ursynów.
Accident Occurs on Ursynów’s Surowiecki Street
At about 19:00 on Wednesday, October 8, the incident took place on Surowiecki Street, near the intersection with Jana Zaorski, close to the Puszczyka 17/19 building and a nearby waste bin.
BMW’s Short Tenure and Possible Mistake
The driver had owned the vehicle for only about a week and had driven nearly 500 km. Preliminary findings suggest she may have confused the pedals or gear settings.
Sudden Acceleration and Collision with Tree
Footage shows the car first moving slightly forward, stopping, then accelerating rapidly and smashing into a tree. The impact struck the boy’s back as he stood on a pedestrian crossing, propelling him into the air.
Strike on 15‑Year‑Old and Bus Damage
The boy, a Ukrainian citizen, was taken to hospital after the collision. The car subsequently attempted to turn right against traffic, hit a road sign, and finally came to rest on its parking spot, while a bus heading in the opposite direction recorded the event.
Emergency Response and Vehicle Damage
Medical teams assisted the boy before transporting him to hospital. Firefighters secured the scene, cut and removed a fallen tree branch that had damaged the bus, and a police officer noted the damage only at the bus’s final turn.
Police Investigation Underway
Police are analyzing video footage to determine why the car accelerated so violently and to outline the maneuver sequence after the initial collision. They are also assessing the legal classification of the incident and the parties’ responsibilities.
