Breakthrough in 2006 Disappearance of Polish Woman in Leicester

Polish police report a breakthrough in the 2006 disappearance of Małgorzata Wnuczek, after British investigators uncovered human remains near Leicester’s Watkin Road.

Disappearance Overview

Małgorzata Wnuczek vanished on 31 May 2006 in the UK after being last seen returning from work in Leicester and driving into the city centre. Despite extensive searches, the circumstances of her disappearance remained unknown up to October of that year.

New Findings

After receiving information from Polish officers and specialists from Bydgoszcz, British police acted under the Tactical Support Team (TST) with forensic support. Search teams carried out trenching on vacant lots near Great Central Way, close to Watkin Road in Leicester, and discovered human remains.

The site search began on 30 September, and further forensic investigations will soon aim to establish the identity of the person whose remains were found. Searches continue in the surrounding area.

Police Statement

Lead investigator Jenni Greenway said the discovery might provide insight into what happened—or what did not happen—to Wnuczek. Officers remain in contact with her family, offering support during this difficult time.

Police will keep a presence in the Watkin Road area to conduct additional work and to maintain a sense of safety for local residents.
