During a Warsaw court hearing, Łukasz Żak erupted in anger after witness Natalia J. recounted that men at a September 2024 collision on Łazienkowska Avenue refused to help the seriously injured.
Witness Account of the Crash
Natalia J. said that when she arrived at the scene of the September 2024 crash on Łazienkowska Avenue, three young men told her not to approach the severely injured Paulina K. She described Paulina as having head injuries, covered, lying outside a car, with fellow witnesses trying to bandage her while men nearby cursed and remained aggressive.
Judge’s Order and Żak’s Response
Police removed Żak from the courtroom in handcuffs after he began shouting at witnesses, calling their statements slanders and demanding he leave the premises. His behaviour was described as unusually emotional.
Details of the Łazienkowska Crash
The collision on Łazienkowska Avenue involved a Volkswagen driving at 226 km/h while the legal limit was 80 km/h, striking a family of four in a second vehicle. The crash killed 37‑year‑old Rafal P. and left his wife and children seriously injured. Investigators say Żak was under the influence of alcohol and recorded the drive on his phone.
Charges Against Żak and Accomplices
Żak faces 5 to 30 years imprisonment for driving under influence, speeding, and recording the vehicle. Prosecutors have also charged six others—Mikołaj N., Kacper D., Damian J., Maciej O., Kacper K., and Aleksandra G.—with failure to help and assisting a fugitive.
