Sawicki Responds to Zandberg on Sejm Alcohol
Marek Sawicki shot back at Adrian Zandberg after the left‑wing leader posted on social media that vodka sales during Sejm sessions and drunken MPs made the voting hall a “soup kitchen.” Zandberg suggested MPs should head elsewhere for drinks, mocking the work environment.
During an interview on Radio Zet, Sawicki said he had approached the chairwoman of the Left party the day before, urging a complete prohibition of alcohol across the party to set a good example. When asked if Left MPs have an alcohol problem, he replied, “They obviously do, since they keep bringing up the same topic.” He added that if the issue consumes them, the party should lead by example.
Alcohol in the Sejm: A Problem?
When questioned whether alcohol poses a problem in the Sejm, Sawicki dismissed it, stating he does not see it as an issue. He differentiated between a handful of “idiots” in a 600‑member chamber and the entire group, cautioning against lumping everyone together.
He reminded Zandberg that the parliamentary hotel is neither a workplace nor a leisure spot. Sawicki praised Lithuania’s post‑1989 decision to eliminate the parliamentary hotel and convert it into MPs’ offices, noting that Warsaw lacks proper office facilities for legislators.
Mentzen on Alcohol Sales in the Sejm
Conflagrationol Konfederacji’s Šławomir Mentzen agreed that restricting alcohol sales would diminish inter‑party contact. He argued that alcohol often facilitates better debate, and without it the Sejm would become a less human place.
