Polish police have begun draining water from the Błaskowiec pond in Czechowice‑Dziedzice to better search for the missing Karolina Wróbel, a move described as unprecedented.
Czechowice‑Dziedzice: Authorities Drain Water from Pond
Police in the Bielsko district began draining water from the Błaskowiec pond in Czechowice‑Dziedzice to determine whether the body of missing Karolina Wróbel is present. The operation will last about a week and will lower the water level to roughly 60 centimetres. The spokesperson, Sławomir Kocur, said this is a first in Poland’s missing‑person searches.

Police used quads, amphibious vehicles, drones—including a thermal‑vision camera—and deployed trained dogs. Investigators believe the body may have become trapped in a thick mud layer, which explains why sonar and cameras had not located it. Frozen ice covering the water bodies was an additional obstacle, according to the local police command.
Searches Ongoing Since January
The inquiry began earlier this year after Karolina allegedly left Czechowice‑Dziedzice in early January without documents, a phone, or cash to shop. A 29‑year‑old man, Patryk B., was initially arrested, accused of homicide, but later withdrew his statements and presented different versions of events. He was released from custody on 6 October. Those with relevant information can contact the Czechowice‑Dziedzice Police Station or the Bielsko‑Biała City Police Command.
