Justice Minister Addresses ‘Scenario’ on Wołodymyr Z: ‘Release Will Not Happen’

In Warsaw, Polish Justice Minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski said a prison release of Ukrainian national Wołodymyr Z would not occur under the current legal scenario.

What Awaits Wołodymyr Z?

In Radio ZET’s “7th Day of the Week,” politicians discussed the Ukrainian national Wołodymyr Z, who is detained in Poland. He is suspected in Germany of sabotaging the Nord Stream gas pipeline. Anna Maria Żukowska of the Left said the court must determine whether a fair trial will be held in the Federal Republic of Germany and added that the state’s rationale is that Z should remain in Poland.

Justice Minister Says Release Won’t Happen

Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, former Minister of Justice and current Senator, stated that if the Polish prosecutor initiates proceedings, the individual would not be released to the German side. If it is a Polish case, the person would remain under the jurisdiction of Polish judicial authorities. He emphasized that under these legal provisions a release would not occur.

Detention under European Arrest Warrant

Z was arrested in Poland based on a European Arrest Warrant. German authorities accuse him of sabotage, property destruction, and sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline. Last week an appeal against his temporary arrest was filed with the Warsaw Court of Appeals by his defense lawyer.

Trial Conditions and Timeline

The Warsaw District Court extended the temporary arrest to 40 days, with potential release only after that period, projected for 9 November. During this window the court must hold a hearing on the prosecutor’s request to implement the European Arrest Warrant issued by Germany.

Possible Sentence of Up to 15 Years

Z has lived in Poland with his wife and children for three and a half years and wishes to purchase property, which for foreigners requires consent from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration. He denies involvement in sabotage; his lawyer argues no Ukrainian citizen should face accusations of destroying Russian property while war continues. If convicted, Z faces up to fifteen years in prison.
