Head‑On Train Collision in Slovakia Leaves Many Injured

A head‑on collision between two trains near Rožňava in eastern Slovakia has left approximately 20 people injured.

Two trains traveling in opposite directions collided head‑on near the town of Rožňava in eastern Slovakia. The crash occurred on a stretch where two tracks merge into one before a tunnel.

Immediate Damage

The front of one locomotive was completely crushed. Both the locomotive and one wagon of the second train were derailed, tumbling off an embankment in hilly terrain.

Response Efforts

Five medical rescue teams and an ambulance helicopter were dispatched to the site. Police secured the area, coordinated rescue work, and managed traffic in the vicinity.

Injuries

Reports state that the trains carried many passengers, with an estimated 20 people injured, although exact numbers are still pending confirmation. The Slovak railway operator is investigating the cause.
