Eight Polish men were denied boarding a flight to Split over aggressive behaviour at Katowice‑Pyrzowice airport during the weekend, authorities said.
Border Guard Intervention
An incident occurred last weekend at Katowice‑Pyrzowice airport. Eight people were denied boarding a flight to Split, Croatia, because they behaved aggressively toward airline staff, the Silesian Section of the Border Guard said. It was reported that a restraint device in the form of handcuffs was used on one individual; for two other Polish citizens, indirect coercive measures—handcuffs, physical force, and transport techniques—were applied.
Alcohol Levels Detected
During the Border Guard intervention, all individuals were escorted to temporary offices in Terminal B. There, they were verified and checked against databases. Breath‑analysis tests showed that several were under the influence of alcohol. “Five Polish citizens were intoxicated, with blood alcohol concentrations ranging from 0.7 to 1.5‰ in exhaled air,” the report said.
Fines and Legal Actions
According to Border Guard reports, one sober man was fined 500 PLN for violating Article 210(1)(9) of the Aviation Act (which states that anyone who does not comply with the aircraft commander’s instructions on board is subject to a fine). That person accepted the fine. “The next two sober men refused to accept the fine—officers will file a court request for punishment. The remaining Polish citizens received summonses to appear at the Border Guard after sobering up,” the officials said.
Release of Individuals
After the Border Guard completed its duties, all individuals left the premises.
