Polish Prosecutors Indict Two Russians for Espionage and Cumulative Bomb

Polish prosecutors filed charges against Russian citizens Igor R. and Irina R. on 9 October 2025, accusing them of spying for the FSB and involvement in a cumulative bomb shipment uncovered in a courier warehouse.

Charges Filed

On 9 October 2025, the Silesian Office of Organized Crime and Corruption sent an indictment to the district court in Sosnowiec charging Igor R. and Irina R. with espionage on behalf of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and offences involving explosive materials. Both remain in temporary custody.

FSB Ties Revealed

The investigation established that Igor R. collaborated with the FSB from February to August 2022, gathering and transmitting information about Russian opposition activists in Poland and their support networks to the agency. The data was allegedly passed on via an encrypted storage device.

Encrypted Data Transfer Attempt

After returning to Russia, Irina R. allegedly tried to ship the encrypted FSB file using a parcel locker and attempted to contact FSB officials. No successful delivery was reported.

Courier Package Investigation

In July 2024, Igor R. participated in sending and arranging pickup of a parcel transported by a courier company. The package, later discovered in large‑surface warehouses in Łódź, contained a strong explosive, Soviet‑made electric detonators, a pre‑charged power bank, a metal thermos with a cumulative charge insert, and powdered aluminium—forming a cumulative bomb capable of extensive infrastructure damage.

Igor R. is charged under Article 164 §1 in connection with Article 163 §1(3) for presenting an imminent danger of mass property damage by explosive. Both defendants are held under temporary arrest since the July 2024 incident. Additional suspects are being processed separately.
