On Monday, October 13, a small Socata TBM‑700 aircraft crashed onto Interstate 195 near Dartmouth, Massachusetts, about 80 km south of Boston. The plane fell into a heavily trafficked section of the highway during morning rush hour. The mayor of neighboring New Bedford shared a video that the motorists on the road suffered only minor injuries.
The wreckage left a section of black metal debris scattered along the highway and into a nearby forest.
Victims
According to the Associated Press, the two fatalities were a married couple from Middletown, Rhode Island, aged 66 and 68. They died at the scene.
Injured Driver
A woman whose car was struck by the falling aircraft was taken to a hospital. Her injuries were not life‑threatening.
Investigation
Massachusetts state police reported that the aircraft was supposed to land at New Bedford Airport, where it had taken off earlier. Officials noted that the pilot failed to file a flight plan. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the incident.
