PiS party conference in Warsaw was heated when a journalist asked about politician Łukasz Mejza’s speeding case, prompting party leader Rafał Bochenek to rebuke the reporter.
Bochenek Responds to TVN Journalist
During the Wednesday press conference at the Justice and Law building, journalist Pierwsza from TVN24 asked the president whether Mejza would be expelled from the party after a speed‑ing incident. Bochenek replied sharply, telling the reporter to “start with yourself” and reminding her of former TVN employee Piotr Kraśk, who has also faced legal troubles.
Kaczyński Asked About Mejza
Earlier in the Sejm, reporters questioned Jarosław Kaczyński about Mejza. Kaczyński admitted that the case had been forwarded to the ethics committee but declined to judge the politician. He downplayed the seriousness, describing it as a traffic offence and said that people who support the Civic Platform should not be in parliament.
Mejza Accused of Speeding at 250 km/h
RMF FM reported that on 14 October, Łukasz Mejza was stopped for nearly twice the legal speed limit on the S3 motorway, allegedly traveling at 250 km/h. Police offered a 2,500 PLN fine, which he rejected by invoking immunity and citing a hurried trip to the airport. In a statement to Radio ZET, Mejza apologised, said he would not repeat the act, and stated he would relinquish immunity and settle the fine if legally possible.
