A 46‑year‑old truck driver died on October 14 after being besieged by a pack of dogs while foraging mushrooms near Zielona Góra on October 12.
Friend Provides Details of Victim’s Character
Marcin Wicik, a close friend of the deceased, described Marcin B. as a former professional athlete with Wisła Puławy, a friendly and peaceful person who never hurt anyone. He worked for a local transport firm and was involved in community initiatives.
Wicik learned of the tragedy during a Mass on Tuesday morning. He added that the Green Mountain City Council had asked a commission on rule‑of‑law to investigate the incident, involving police and shelter representatives.
Mysterious Cut in Contact Before Attack
The victim was collecting mushrooms and had been sending pictures of them before the incident. According to Wicik, the call suddenly dropped and he reached out to 112. He reportedly fought off the dogs.
Severe Dog Bite Attack and Medical Response
Marcin B. was described as tall and muscular—1.9 m, over 100 kg. He could have handled a single dog, but a pack attacked. Police found him lying next to the animals, battered with 54 bites, some up to 10 cm deep. Family said he was found only after two hours.
He was taken to a hospital, underwent multiple surgeries, and doctors considered amputations. He died on the evening of Tuesday, October 14.
Legal Investigation into Dog Owners
The prosecutor’s office said preliminary findings indicate the dog owners failed to maintain necessary precautions. The dogs allegedly left the shooting range premises and attacked the passerby.
The owner, a former police officer from a family with police traditions, had previously trained other officers at the range.
