Pentagon Ready to Deliver Tomahawks to Ukraine, Trump Must Act

The Pentagon has prepared plans to sell or transfer Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, a move that will hinge on a decision by President Donald Trump during an upcoming meeting with President Zelensky.

Pentagon Prepared to Transfer Tomahawks to Ukraine

The Pentagon has developed plans to sell or transfer Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. According to the New York Times, the decision rests with President Donald Trump, who will discuss the issue with President Volodymyr Zelensky during a Washington meeting on Friday, October 17. Trump has not ruled out the move, citing increasing frustration with Russia’s stance. Moscow has already warned of a sharp reaction if the missiles are transferred.

Risk of Escalation and Technical Barriers

American reports say that handing over Tomahawks would pose significant technical challenges, as Ukraine lacks the necessary launchers. The missiles would require Typhon launch systems owned by the U.S. Army. Experts warn such a step could bring the United States closer to direct confrontation with Russia. Financial Times estimated that the U.S. could provide between 20 and 50 missiles, though this would not substantially alter the front line situation.

Zelenski Prepares for Washington Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that his country is ready for the Friday talks aimed at securing global U.S. influence to end the war. A Ukrainian delegation led by Prime Minister Julia Swiydenko is already in Washington, engaging with administration officials and arms industry firms. The negotiations will also cover economic issues beyond military aid.

Trump Urges End to War

President Donald Trump called his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, urging an end to the conflict in Ukraine. He also mentioned that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to halt imports of Russian oil. Trump said that two months earlier he had believed he had agreed with Putin on ending the war, but that was not the case. He reiterated that his only demand of Putin is to stop killing Ukrainians and Russians, stating that the death toll is high on both sides. Trump believes India’s stance will increase pressure on Moscow and that this change will take effect soon. He also suggested that Ukraine is planning an offensive.
