A 42‑year‑old resident of Gdynia was taken into custody on 16 October after police connected a series of arson incidents that targeted more than a dozen vehicles, many bearing Ukrainian licence plates, reported since June.
Arrest Triggered by Latest Incident
Police said the arrest came immediately after a new case that matched earlier arsons. The suspect, a Gdynia resident, was apprehended at the scene of the most recent attack.
Evidence of Flammable Mixtures
Investigators seized a range of containers at the suspect’s apartment that held liquids and substances potentially capable of forming improvised explosive mixtures. Tests show the materials could produce a self‑igniting compound.
Charges and Court Ruling
The 42‑year‑old faces charges for destroying more than a dozen cars, with estimated damages amounting to at least 262 thousand Polish zloty. The court ordered a three‑month pre‑trial detention; the defendant could receive up to five years in prison for property destruction.
