Polish Coach Crash on Austrian Motorway Claims One Life, 13 Injured

A Polish coach and two other vehicles collided on Austria’s A5 motorway near Drasenhofen, killing the delivery van driver and injuring 13 people, including the coach and truck drivers, officials said.

Ministerial Statement

Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed an accident involving three Polish vehicles on the Austrian A5 motorway. The statement noted one fatality and several injuries.

How the Accident Happened

The collision occurred on the A5 near Drasenhofen, a few kilometres from the Czech border. An Austrian delivery van ran into the opposite lane, struck a heavy truck, and the following coach could not avoid the wreckage. The motorway was closed in both directions and rerouted via the parallel B7 road through Drasenhofen, where traffic jams were reported.

One Victim and Multiple Injuries

The van driver died at the scene. Threeteen people were reported injured, including two seriously: the heavy truck driver and the coach driver. Firefighters extracted them from their cabins, and rescuers airlifted them to hospitals. Of the 24 people aboard the coach, eleven required hospital treatment; the others were treated on site.

Polish Delegation on Board

The coach carried a Polish delegation, including the driver and his substitute, but no further details were provided.
