A Polish coach collided on the A5 motorway near Drasenhofen in northern Lower Austria on Friday morning, October 17, killing the bus driver and injuring dozens.
Accident Sequence
At Friday morning on the A5 motorway near Drasenhofen, a delivery truck heading to the Czech Republic collided with a bus. The truck then struck a Polish coach traveling in the same direction, and all vehicles bore Polish licence plates.
Casualties
The bus driver was killed despite rapid medical aid. The coach and truck drivers were trapped inside and had to be freed by firefighters. The coach carried 24 people, including 22 passengers, a driver and a relief driver.
Emergency Response
Large rescue forces from Austria and the Czech Republic, the fire department and two rescue helicopters were deployed. Severely injured patients were transported to hospitals in Brno and Vienna‑Meidling, while eleven people suffered minor injuries. The road was blocked in both directions during the afternoon.
