Millions of Americans marched across the United States on June 14 and again the following day, demanding an end to monarchic rhetoric while the president asserted his absolute authority.
Mass Demonstrations Under ‘No Kings’ Slogan
Over 2,500 peaceful protests were planned across the United States under the “No Kings” banner, organized by the Indivisible Project. The largest turnout was reported in New York, where activists gathered at around 11 a.m. local time, according to CNN. Protesters displayed banners reading “No Kings” and “People over Billionaires” and chanted slogans such as “This is how democracy looks” and “No hatred, no fear – immigrants welcome”.
Color Coding and Creative Costumes Amplify the Message
Many participants wore bright yellow clothing, a color chosen to signal unity and the belief that America belongs to its people, not monarchs. In addition to yellow, some protesters donned costumes ranging from frogs and dinosaurs to unicorns. Similar events were held in Berlin, Paris, and Rome in solidarity with American demonstrators.
White House Spokesperson Dismisses the Movement
Abigail Jackson, the White House spokesperson, was asked by CNN why the administration supported the protests. She replied, “Who cares?” Her abrupt dismissal echoed remarks made earlier on the same day, underscoring the administration’s indifference toward the demonstrators’ concerns.
June 14: A Day of Historical Significance
The first wave of “No Kings” protests took place on June 14, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. Organizers estimated that roughly five million people participated, making the event one of the largest peaceful mobilizations in U.S. history.
President Trump Accuses Protesters of Threatening Democracy
Protest organizers claim that the administration has escalated tensions by sending masked agents to street demonstrations, targeting families and immigrants with profiling and arrests without warrants. They allege that the president believes his power is absolute and threatens to control elections while undermining healthcare, environmental protection, and education.
