On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Associated Press reported that Houthi rebels backed by Iran infiltrated the United Nations building in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a. UN senior coordinator Jean Alam confirmed that 15 international staff were inside during the raid and that all employees were reported safe and had contacted their families following the incident.
Fire on Cameroonian‑Flagged Ship off Yemen Coast
Off Yemen’s coast, a vessel flying the flag of Cameroon caught fire after being struck by an unknown projectile approximately 215 km east of Aden. One crew member was declared missing, another likely remained on the burning deck, while the remaining crew were evacuated. EU maritime patrol Operation Aspides noted that the 26‑person crew was entirely Indian except for one Ukrainian. The British Maritime Operations Centre will conduct the investigation.
Death of Houthi Commander Mohammed al‑Ghamari
On Thursday, Oct. 16, Yemeni media reported the death of Houthi senior commander General Mohammed al‑Ghamari, allegedly killed in an Israeli attack. Houthi representatives, who are Iran‑backed, said the conflict with Israel remains unresolved and that al‑Ghamari would face a deterrent penalty for crimes. They also stated that the division general died “while performing his duties.” Earlier, on Sept. 26, at least nine people died during an Israeli strike on the Houthi general staff headquarters.
