Authorities in Krakow have charged two men with failing to aid a 27‑year‑old woman who died after being left in an elevator; the investigation into her death has now concluded.
Case Overview
At the end of January, police discovered a 27‑year‑old woman’s body in the elevator of a residential building on Brogi Street in Krakow. The incident prompted a rapid investigation that led to the arrests of three individuals connected to the case.
Key Charges
The prosecutor’s office has issued a charge against Mateusz P. and Lidia Ż., accusing them of failing to provide assistance to the victim in a situation that posed an immediate risk to her life. Both are accused of neglecting their duty to act when the woman was severely ill.
Arrests and Evidence
Mateusz P., aged 26, was reportedly the man who had hosted the woman in his apartment prior to her death. Police seized hundreds of medication packages, prescriptions, 14 g of marijuana, needles, syringes, several mobile phones, and a substantial amount of cash from the premises. Two women were also detained; one was released after being questioned as a witness, while the other, Lidia Ż., was alleged to have assisted Mateusz in moving the body.
Investigation Findings
The investigation concluded that the preliminary autopsy results excluded any involvement by a third party. The exact cause of death has not been revealed by investigators.
Legal Proceedings
Following the conclusion of the investigation, the prosecutor’s office transmitted a file containing the indictment to the court, formally initiating the legal process against the accused parties. The spokesperson for the Krakow District Attorney’s Office stated that the prosecution holds the accused responsible for their failure to help and to call for emergency services in time.
