On September 23, the Łódź Regional Prosecutor’s Office evicted a cat named Krzys from its building after it was bitten by a visiting dog, prompting an official statement concerning the animal’s health and future care.
Łódź: Cat Krzys Evicted
The cat Krzys was well known by staff and stakeholders of the Łódź Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The animal had made itself at home in the building, was fed and cared for. It seemed calm, but on September 23 a prosecutor was bitten after Krzys confronted a dog brought into the building. Krzys was taken immediately to a veterinarian and quarantined. Now the prosecutor’s office has issued an official statement about the incident and the cat’s fate.
Prosecutor’s Office on the Eviction
Spokesman Krzysztof Kopania said the late‑September incident caused serious injuries requiring treatment and multiple shots to a prosecutor. He noted that the prosecutor’s office is a fast‑moving environment. He listed interrogations and arrests. Clients include lawyers, police, and other services. Dogs may also serve as guides or be used during official duties by police. All of this exposes the cat to various stimuli, and its reaction—as time has shown—is unpredictable.
Future of the Cat
The decision for the cat to leave the prosecutor’s building was made solely out of concern for the safety of both stakeholders and prosecutors. It does not mean the cat will become homeless. Efforts continue to find it a new owner who can provide caring care and a home environment. The prosecutor’s office hopes this will happen soon. The cat is waiting for a new caretaker; interested parties can contact the Łódź Regional Prosecutor’s Office at Lipowa 81 or Piotrkowska 151.
