The Avangard plant in Sterlitamak suffered a strong explosion that destroyed one building, killing three women and injuring five others. President of Bashkortostan Radik Chabirow confirmed the casualties.

Investigation into the Cause

Investigators are still determining whether the blast was accidental or the result of an attack. Chabirow stated that it was an explosion, not a drone strike, and prosecutors have opened a case on safety violations.

Ukraine Drones Strike Russia

Russia’s Defence Ministry said that 41 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight, some over Bashkortostan. One month earlier a Ukraine drone had damaged a refinery in Ufa.

Zelenski Hopes for Tomahawk Support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met with U.S. President Biden at the White House, discussing the possibility of supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles. He said he is still awaiting a positive Washington decision.
