Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk condemned any pressure on Ukraine for territorial concessions, urging that only halting Russian aggression can bring just peace, after President Trump questioned whether Putin would end the war.
Tusk Rejects Concessions as Path to Peace
On Sunday evening, Tusk posted on X that no member of the coalition should pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on territorial concessions. He argued that the only viable path to ending the conflict is to press Russia to cease aggression, stressing that concessions never lead to just or durable peace.
Trump’s Questions on Putin’s Intentions
In a Fox News interview, President Donald Trump was asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would be willing to finish the war without taking control of any Ukrainian territory. Trump replied that Putin would “take something” from Ukraine and noted that the Russians had already seized a large portion of territory, citing that they had secured specific regions.
Putin Demands Donetsk Control
The Washington Post reported that during a phone call last week with Trump, Putin demanded full control over the Donetsk region—a strategically crucial area in eastern Ukraine—as a war‑ending condition. Putin was also reported as willing to relinquish some of the partially captured districts, an approach the paper described as somewhat narrower than those he outlined in August at the summit in Anchorage.
