Wall collapse during Ciechanów bank renovation injures two workers

A wall collapsed inside the Ciechanów bank on Saturday, crushing two workers and sending one into intensive care, authorities reported.

During morning renovation work on a bank building at Jana Pawła Square in Ciechanów, an interior wall fell, crushing two construction workers.

Rescue Operations and Medical Response

Firefighters immediately reached the site. One victim freed himself from the rubble and was taken to the Medical Rescue Team; the second required hydraulic tools for extraction before being handed over to medical staff. Both were transported to the Regional Specialist Hospital.

Injuries Sustained

The more severely injured man suffered multi‑organ damage and was moved into a medium‑severe condition, undergoing surgery. The other sustained a shoulder injury. The victims were 29‑year‑old from Ciechanów County and 28‑year‑old from Pułtusk County.

No Structural Damage

Pole service contractors confirmed that the wall was a partition and no load‑bearing structure was compromised. Temporary access restrictions were imposed around Jana Pawła Square.

Ongoing Investigation

The police, under prosecutor supervision, are investigating the incident’s exact cause, the scope of works, and health‑and‑safety compliance. The case is handled by the District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Ciechanów.
