Death in Poddębice: 75‑Year‑Old Man Found with Bite Wounds to Buttocks, Thighs and Head

A 75‑year‑old man was discovered dead on 17 October outside a property in Poddębice, bearing bite injuries to his buttocks, thighs and head, police say.

Initial Findings

On the afternoon of 17 October, a 75‑year‑old man was found dead in front of a property in the Poddębice municipality. Prosecutor Marek Wojtysiak told Fakt that the victim had bite wounds on his buttocks, thighs and head. Preliminary investigations suggest that up to five dogs may have attacked him. The animals were seized and taken to a shelter for veterinary examination.

Animal Ownership

Investigators determined that the dogs belonged to a woman living on the neighbouring property where the body was located. Early information indicates that the woman may suffer from a pathological obsession with collecting animals. Multiple dogs roamed her property and were also kept in her home. The investigators have not yet questioned her, citing difficulties establishing contact. They are examining whether she provided adequate conditions, food and care for the animals.

Police Investigation

The police are operating under the supervision of the Poddębice District Prosecutor’s Office. An investigation has been opened for negligent homicide. The investigators do not yet conclude whether the dogs caused the man’s death – a determination that will be made after the autopsy scheduled for the end of the week.

Earlier Incident Near Racławice

A week before this tragedy, in the area around Zielona Góra, on the MOPR of Racławice, three dogs attacked a 46‑year‑old truck driver who had stopped there for a break and then went mushroom‑foraging. The man suffered 53 bite wounds. He died despite medical assistance. The dog owners turned out to be a former police officer, who has now faced charges of intent to cause grievous bodily harm resulting in death.
