PiS Plans 1‑Million‑Zloty Katowice Convention with 100 Panels and 500 Participants

PiS is set to stage a two‑day convention in Katowice on 24‑25, projecting costs of about one million zlotys and featuring nearly 100 debate panels with 500 attendees.

PiS Katowice Convention

The convention, titled “Right and Justice – Thinking Poland,” will run on 24‑25 in Katowice. The agenda shows a speech by Jarosław Kaczyński at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by an evening debate on challenges to NATO’s eastern flank featuring Mariusz Błaszczak, with Kaczyński also speaking later that night. Subsequent sessions will split into main forums and specialist panels. Participants include Janusz Kowalski, Zbigniew Bogucki, Tobiasz Bocheński, Przemysław Czarnek, Patryk Jaki, Mateusz Morawiecki and Beata Szydło, alongside non‑political panelists.

Cost and Scale

According to Newsweek, the Katowice convention is estimated to cost about one million zlotys. It will feature nearly 100 discussion panels and host roughly 500 participants. An anonymous PiS politician noted, “Everyone who was reasonably serious received a bit of a field and a spot in the panels.” Another added, “There were pageants. I made sure I wasn’t removed from the roster.”

Political Influence in Panels

The magazine’s findings suggest that panels on the judiciary were intended to be dominated by Ziobro party members. One Newsweek source said the party also sought to place Mateusz Morawiecki in those panels. Newsweek reports the convention’s outcome will be a substantial program document.

Kaczyński on Program and Constitutional Change

Jarosław Kaczyński announced the programmatic convention in July, saying the tone would be final yet serve as the start of an operation to prepare a program that “will immobilize people, showing Poland can be governed differently.” He has highlighted “problems to solve” for the new party program, with the first being a legal‑system constitutional change to guarantee Polish sovereignty.
