Poland’s meteorological institute warned of dense fog across much of the country Monday, but a temperate shift is expected as temperatures climb, easing weather across the nation.
Fog Warnings Across the Nation
On Monday morning, the Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued fog warnings over a large part of the country, mainly in eastern Poland. By afternoon most of those alerts had lifted, though the south, especially in the mountainous counties, still faces hazardous conditions.
The institute forecasts local winds of up to 40 km/h on average, with gusts reaching 75 km/h from the south‑east and south. Evening clouds are expected to build from the west, and near‑shore winds may gust up to 60 km/h.
Warming from the West
According to the forecast, a warmer, polar‑marine air mass is moving into Poland from the south‑west. Thermometers will record, today, around 8 °C in the north‑east and 13 °C in the south‑west.
The trend will persist for the next few days; Tuesday is expected to be warmer still, with scattered light rain possible. Winds remain moderate, but periods of stronger flow may occur in the mountains and along the coast.
Mid‑Week Brightening
Long‑term forecasts predict a clear improvement on Wednesday and Thursday. Western parts of the country may see temperatures rise to 18–19 °C, with sunshine breaking through the clouds more often.
However, meteorologists warn that this won’t be permanent; from Saturday onward, a re‑cooling is anticipated, returning to a more autumnal atmosphere.
