6‑Month‑Old Boy Dies After Vaccination in Gąsawa; Probe Underway

In Gąsawa, a 6‑month‑old boy died within days of receiving a vaccine, prompting a formal investigation into a potentially expired vaccine batch.

Vaccination Instigates Fatal Decline

A 6‑month‑old Gabriel was vaccinated at the Non‑Public Health Care Center in Gąsawa on the cusp of September‑October. Within a few days, the child’s condition deteriorated rapidly; signs of swelling at the injection site progressed to sepsis, and ultrasound revealed multiorgan failure.

Doctors noted the leg turning black, followed by gangrene, and proceeded with emergency incisions. Despite attempts at resuscitation, organ failure escalated, and Gabriel succumbed on 9 October.

Health Authority Investigation

The local Sanepid office recorded a suspected adverse reaction (NOP) and ordered a control of the NZOZ Gąsawa. Their audit found that one of the vaccine preparations administered had exceeded its expiry date.

Following the findings, inspectors reported the case to the prosecutor’s office and the batch of vaccines was withdrawn from circulation.

Prosecutorial Inquiry

Prosecutors confirmed that the expiry date had passed and are investigating whether this contributed to the adverse reaction and the child’s death. Medical records have been secured, witnesses interviewed, and a specialist is appointed to determine causality.

Facility’s Statement on Procedures

The Gąsawa clinic’s director emphasized that the cause of death remains unknown and that claims of an adverse reaction are speculative until other causes are excluded. The facility highlighted that its vaccination procedures comply with current standards, with each child assessed by a physician prior to inoculation and vaccines administered by nurses either orally or intramuscularly.

The clinic remains cooperative with both prosecutors and the Sanepid, continuing its standard protocols.
