Kołobrzeg Child Death: 1½‑Year‑Old Girl Dies, New Details Emerge

Police say a 1½‑year‑old girl died after an incident in a day‑care centre in Kołobrzeg on Monday, October 20, following a brief resuscitation attempt.

Number of Children in Care

Police prosecutors report that twelve children were present at the moment of the tragedy, whereas regulations permit only five.

The caretaker explained that a party had been organized for several children that day, beyond the usual group of five under her supervision.

Investigators’ Focus

Investigators are examining whether the higher‑than‑allowed number of children contributed to the child’s death or increased risk of danger.

Incident Details

On Monday, October 20, a 1½‑year‑old girl, after returning from a walk, fell asleep, turned blue, and stopped breathing in a family‑run day‑care facility in Kołobrzeg.

The caretaker spotted the distress, called emergency services, and began resuscitation, which lasted over an hour; firefighters and a rescue helicopter were deployed, but the child did not regain life functions.

Facility Compliance

The facility was officially registered last year and underwent a control check that revealed no irregularities; the caretaker completed all required training.
