Between 15 and 19 October, Polish police conducted the ‘Alcohol and Drugs’ operation, checking thousands of drivers and identifying 31 individuals under influence.
Operation Overview
From 15 to 19 October, officers carried out intensified road‑circuit checks under the codename “Alcohol and Drugs,” targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Thousands of motorists were inspected, and the results confirmed that such measures remain essential.
Testing Rigour
The operation included 1,898 breath‑alcohol tests and 31 drug‑screening tests, covering a broad cross‑section of vehicular traffic.
Findings
Police identified 18 drivers impaired by alcohol and 13 by illicit substances. Additionally, three persons in possession of drugs were arrested, one driver was caught operating a vehicle despite a court‑issued driving ban, and three individuals without valid licences were also apprehended.
Legal Risks
Police reiterated that driving under the influence poses a severe danger to the driver and others on the road. Offenders risk licence revocation, criminal liability, and financial penalties. Under the criminal code, driving while intoxicated or on drugs can lead to up to three years’ imprisonment, and five years in cases of repeat offences. Courts may also impose vehicle ban or forfeiture.
Objectives
The preventative campaign, “Alcohol and Drugs,” seeks to enhance road safety and respond decisively to drivers who take the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs. Police announced that such controls will continue, and violators must expect stringent consequences.
